History of Streamyx

History of Streamyx

TMNet Streamyx currently known as only Streamyx is the key internet service provider in Malaysia.

Streamyx is also the only fixed broadband internet service provider compant in Malaysia. TM Berhad or formerly known as Telekom Malaysia Berhad is the parent holding company of Streamyx. Notably TM Net offers its internet DSL broadband internet with the brandname Streamyx.

TM Net was established in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which eventually morphed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan.

It was at first deployed as a trial between TMnet and COINS.

The earliest commercial trial run of xDSL by TM was done by a service known as HiS that was deployed jointly with Ericsson in 1999.

The original Streamyx internet broadband service was introduced in 04 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.

In 06 2007, TMnet commences the 4mbpsbroadband internet service which is currently, is the fastest available speed.

10 December 2009, Streamyx released a new 15mbps fiber optic service under High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is anticipated to be released by March 2010.

Right now the Malaysian internet infrastructure have been determined as not meeting the latest specifications as needed by basic web applications such as YouTube, Skype. Thus concludes that Malaysia may not in the long run reap the rewards of broadband internet service.

Consequently, Malaysia's High Speed Broadband Project is set to address this issue.
